What People Are Saying
“Dance is mindfulness. Song is mindfulness. All these forms of prayer and ceremony lie at the heart of the practice because they bring us to that oneness.”

“Mindfulness is really part of who we are. When we talk about mindfulness, it often seems very Eastern. But our people sat outside and observed the beauty we live among—if we open our eyes to see it.”

““I think the thing that I learned, that has stuck with me, was… someone had pointed out, that besides listening to our breath, that’s what I generally focus on, the ‘In-breath’ and the ‘Out-breath’, someone had mentioned listening to sounds. So now, almost every day, I go outside and sit for about 20 minutes. This has become my go-to meditation. I feel so fortunate… In my backyard there are trees and birds—so many birds. So many bird sounds, soft ones and loud ones, it really centers me to have that sound meditation. I’ve found that my blood pressure has come down. It had been creeping up, and now it’s back down.

Instead of looking at the houses and thinking, ‘These people have stolen this land,’ I bring myself to that space of beauty on either side of the road. Don’t look at the houses—look at the trees.

“I hope we can get our young people involved, because so many of them are moving into mainstream society and away from their culture”
